In this interactive web experience, the user becomes an investigator, piecing together how thousands of Black and Brown communities have had their homes stolen by a highly organized system of developers, financial institutions, and corporations.

Steal-Estate is an interactive web experience featuring audio storytelling and dynamic illustration that makes the case against the financialization of housing, framing the issue as an organized criminal racket that has preyed on vulnerable communities with impunity even after the 2008 financial crisis. Through a true crime format, we follow three foreclosure survivors as they get to the bottom of the intricate web of competing corporate interests and the predatory housing policies and practices that enable them. As they discover that they are not alone, our protagonists join forces with organizers and advocates to fight back and protect their beloved communities.
